Ocean Acidification
In the BMBF-funded joint project BIOACID (Biological Impacts of Ocean Acidification), which ran for three three-year funding periods and was coordinated by Ulf Riebesell, our working group investigated
- the sensitivity of physiological processes at the organism level
- the evolutionary adaptation potential
- the effects of organism reactions on trophic relationships
- the consequences of ecological changes for biogeochemical cycles
Methodologically, we used
- rate measurements with pure cultures
- long-term experiments over 2000 generations to clarify the evolutionary adaptation potential
- incubation experiments at the population level
- mesocosm experiments with a volume of 60,000 liters at the ecosystem level
